  • “They Can Choose…” Usha Vance On Raising Interfaith Kids And Hindu Roots

Second Lady Usha Vance said in an interview that she and husband, Vice President JD Vance raise their three children, Ewan, Vivek and Mirabel, in an interfaith household, since she is Hindu and her husband is Catholic.

Second Lady Usha Vance said in an interview that she and husband, Vice President JD Vance raise their three children, Ewan, Vivek and Mirabel, in an interfaith household, since she is Hindu and her husband is Catholic.

The first lady spoke to Meghan McCain on her podcast “Citizen McCain”. She opened up about how their children have the choice to decide whether they want to be baptised Catholics as they grow up.

“So what we’ve ended up doing is we send our kids to Catholic school, and we have given them each the choice, right? They can choose whether they want to be baptised Catholic and then go through the whole step-by-step process with their classes in school,” she said.

The Second Lady had once been a Democrat and her friends were “bewildered”, as she later on became the spouse of a Republican vice president, per a NYT article.

“At the time when I met JD, he wasn’t Catholic, and he converted later and when he converted, we had a lot of conversations about that because it was actually after we had our first child, maybe it was after Vivek was born too,” she said. “When you convert to Catholicism it comes with several important obligations, like to raise your child in the faith and all that.”

“We had to have a lot of real conversations about how do you do that, when I’m not Catholic, and I’m not intending to convert or anything like that,” Usha added.

She said that their children know that she is not Catholic, and that they have “plenty of access to the Hindu tradition from books that we give them, to things that we show them, to the recent trip to India, and some of the religious elements of that visit”.

  • “When Zohran Mamdani Opens Mouth, Pak PR Takes Day Off”: Congress’s AM Singhvi

Zohran Mamdani, born to Indian parents, recently won Democratic primaries for the New York mayoral election.

Congress MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi has ripped into Zohran Mamdani, the mayoral candidate for New York, in mounting criticism for the 33-year-old leader born to Indian parents in Uganda. The Rajya Sabha member did not mince his words to disapprove of Mamdani, whose victory in the recent Democratic mayoral primaries, against former mayor Andrew Cuomo, has given a boost to his mayoral campaign.

“When Zohran Mamdani opens his mouth, Pakistan’s PR team takes the day off. India doesn’t need enemies with ‘allies’ like him shouting fiction from New York,” said Mr Singhvi in a social media post hours after he emerged as a key contender in the race for mayor’s post in the Big Apple.

The Congress leader’s harsh criticism followed US President Donald Trump’s “lunatic” jibe at Mamdani, asserting that the Democrat had “crossed the line”.

“It’s finally happened, the Democrats have crossed the line. Zohran Mamdani, a 100% Communist Lunatic, has just won the Dem Primary, and is on his way to becoming Mayor. We’ve had Radical Lefties before, but this is getting a little ridiculous,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social.

Trump didn’t stop short of a personal attack on the Democrat, describing Mamdani’s looks as “terrible” and his voice “grating”. “He’s not very smart, he’s got AOC+3, Dummies ALL, backing him, and even our Great Palestinian Senator, Cryin’ Chuck Schumer, is groveling over him,” said the President.

He concluded: “With our future Communist Mayor of New York City, Zohran Mamdani…our Country is really screwed.”

Mamdani is the son of Indian American filmmaker Mira Nair and Indian-born Ugandan Marxist scholar Mahmood Mamdani. He secured 43.5 per cent votes in the Democratic primary election recently, defeating Cuomo and emerging as the potential next mayor of New York City, and the city’s first Muslim mayor.

  • Zohran Mamdani’s Journey From A “B-List” Rapper To NYC Mayoral Candidate

Currently, people know Zohran Mamdani as a Democratic Socialist contending to be the next mayor of New York City. However, before he became the dependable for NYC progressives, as he is now, he used to moonlight as a rapper – using Young Cardamom or Mr. Cardamom as a moniker.

Currently, people know Zohran Mamdani as a Democratic Socialist contending to be the next mayor of New York City. However, before he became the dependable for NYC progressives, as he is now, he used to moonlight as a rapper – using Young Cardamom or Mr. Cardamom as a moniker.

Mamdani has humourously labelled himself as a “B-list rapper” and on his X account, which he used as a rapper, he promoted “Nani”, a tribute to his grandmother, that debuted in April 2019.

After Mamdani became popular, his song got attention too. The song features actress Madhur Jaffrey as his “nani” or grandmother, and starts off with Mamdani, or Cardamom, chastising her as “not a good nani”, he then starts rapping about being “the best damn nani that you ever done seen”.

  • After Sunil Gavaskar Criticises Yashasvi Jaiswal’s Fielding, Comes “Easy To Sit And Criticise” Retort From Ex-Coach

During the entire Test, India dropped as many as eight catching opportunities, which tipped the scales in England’s favour

despite scoring a ton for India vs England in the 1st Test in Leeds, got quite a lot of flak due to his fielding mistakes. During the entire Test, India dropped as many as eight catching opportunities, which tipped the scales in England’s favour. The eight dropped chances cost India a whopping 250 runs, a valuable tally that held the power to change the visitors’ fate. Yashasvi Jaiswal was the prime offender with four dropped chances, followed by other top fielders.

Former India captain and batting legend Sunil Gavaskar was not pleased with the fielding of Team India. “I don’t think there will be any medal given. T Dillip gives those after a match. This is what was really very, very disappointing. Yashasvi Jaiswal is a very good fielder but he hasn’t been able to hold on to anything this time,” Sunil Gavaskar, who was commentating, said.

Stuart Broad was also critical. “Crucially, and I mean this in the kindest possible way, they have to take their catches. They can’t lob three or four of them on the floor when you’re trying to get 10 wickets to take a test match,” he said.

However, former India fielding coach R Sridhar has come in defence of Yashasvi Jaiswal. “He’s actually an excellent gully fielder. Make no mistake. He’s had just two bad games — one in Melbourne, one here in Leeds. Otherwise, he’s been exceptional. The catches he took against Bangladesh in Kanpur were outstanding. It’s easy to sit in the commentary box and criticise, but these are challenging conditions, and for many of them, it’s their first experience of this environment,” he told Sportstar.

Sridhar, however, said that India’s ground fielding level was not good at all.

“The standard of ground fielding which is exhibited is not acceptable. Unlike catching, ground fielding is something which is totally in your control. You should know which ball to put your body behind, which ball to attack, which ball to play safe,” he said.

“You know when to pick up the right cues, you know, based on the breeze. Wind is another big factor. As the television visuals showed, Leeds was extremely blustery and cold when we were fielding. But even then, Karun Nair took two brilliant catches, and so did KL Rahul.”

The former coach urged everyone to show some patience with the Indian cricket team.

“Going on the first tour to England and adapting and being a good slip fielder is not an easy task. You can practice all you want, but in the match, it’s quite challenging. The conditions are very cold, so the fingers get very numb. And secondly, the Duke’s ball wobbles a lot as it comes towards you. It’s not easy to catch,” he said

  • “People Target Me Because They Know I Am Next Lalu Yadav”: Tej Pratap To NDTV

Tej Pratap Yadav was expelled from the Rashtriya Janata Dal for six years last month after he posted a photo of himself with a woman and wrote that they had been in a relationship for 12 years. He later said his account.

Expelled from the Rashtriya Janata Dal for six years, with the announcement coming from none other than his father, Tej Pratap Yadav has claimed people are conspiring against him because they know that he is the next Lalu Yadav.

In an exclusive interview with NDTV on Thursday, Lalu Yadav’s eldest son also said, cryptically,  that while he would like his brother Tejashwi Yadav to become the chief minister of Bihar after the elections later this year, he wants to play the role of kingmaker.

Tej Pratap Yadav – who married Aishwarya Rai, the daughter of a former Bihar minister in 2018 –  was expelled from the RJD last month after he posted a photo on X and wrote that the woman he was with was Anushka Yadav and that they had been in a relationship for 12 years.

Even though Tej Pratap Yadav deleted the post and claimed his account had been hacked, RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav announced that he was distancing his son from the family and expelling him from the party for six years because of his “irresponsible behaviour” and “disregard for ethical values”.

Asked how he had taken the news, Tej Pratap Yadav, a former Bihar minister, said he felt bad and indicated he had been expelled because someone was conspiring against him.

“Of course, I felt bad. If you expel a party member or an employee you have hired because someone swayed your opinion… it feels bad,” Tej Pratap said in Hindi.

To a question on whether he felt worse because it was his father who expelled him, the Hasanpur MLA said his parents, Lalu Yadav and Rabri Devi, are like gods to him, and he has the utmost respect for them. “My mother is always worried about me. As their first son, I know they keep me in their heart… I don’t want to go into details of what the situation was or wasn’t because that is completely political,” he said.

“My younger brother, Tejashwi, has my blessings and complete support for becoming the chief minister… there are no issues there,” he stressed.

    Tejashwi-Tej Ties

Asked to elaborate on the relationship with Tejashwi, Tej Pratap said there is some turmoil (‘uthal puthal’) but he is trying to handle the situation.

“I have no interest in there being a breakdown in the relationship. I don’t want to ruin ties… with anyone. I always try to maintain relationships… When you are the elder brother, you have to fulfil an elder brother’s responsibilities,” he said.

    ‘Selective Targeting’

To a question on whether he felt the controversy around him has dented the RJD’s image, Tej Pratap wondered whether only his actions did that.

“There are many other people as well. Why am I being specially targeted? I am not going to talk about my family – my brothers, sisters or parents. The other people who keep targeting me do so because they know that I am the next Lalu Yadav, because I have the same kind of voice, the same pure, raw mannerisms, the same grounded nature. Several people have said this,” he claimed.

“Tejashwi should become the chief minister, he has my full support. I want to play the role of  kingmaker. Some don’t like that I have my ear to the ground, that I raise issues that matter to the people without being afraid of anyone. This is what my father used to do, and that is what I, his son, should do as well. People in villages like people who are grounded,” he said.

  • Tricolour On Shoulder, Excited About Next 14 Days: Shubhanshu Shukla From ISS

ndian Air Force (IAF) Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla said he is excited about the scientific tasks that he and the crew will perform for the next 14 days in the International Space Station (ISS).

Indian Air Force (IAF) Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla said he is excited about the scientific tasks that he and the crew will perform for the next 14 days in the International Space Station (ISS). He said he is feeling a bit “lightheaded” but “that is nothing compared to the excitement”.

It was the first time the entire team spoke together since Group Captain Shukla and three other astronauts successfully docked their Dragon spacecraft with the ISS this evening. Visuals beamed from the ISS showed the four astronauts who had just arrived enjoying a healthy drink and laughing.

“I am feeling lightheaded,” the IAF pilot-turned-astronaut said. “But that is not much of an issue compared to the things we will do here for the next 14 days. It is a very proud and exciting moment, a big step in our space journey,” Group Captain Shukla said, flanked by the ISS crew and the three astronauts who came with him – Slawosz Uznanski-Wisniewski of Poland, Tibor Kapu of Hungary, and Dr Peggy Whitson of the US.

He reiterated what he said earlier about the tricolour (national flag). “I wear the tricolour on my shoulders with pride.”

Group Captain Shukla’s family along with friends and relatives gathered at the school in Lucknow where he studied and watched the live telecast of the space capsule Dragon’s successful docking at the ISS.

The capsule which is part of the Axiom 4 mission is the fifth and final Dragon in Elon Musk-owned company SpaceX fleet. It was christened “Grace” after reaching orbit.Asha Shukla, the mother of IAF Group Captain, was seen tearing up as she watched the live telecast of the docking in the ISS.

“We are extremely proud. We have been praying for his success. This is a proud day for us,” his father Shambhu Dayal Shukla told news agency ANI, adding the family will meet with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

The Indian astronaut has become the 634th astronaut in the world to travel to space. Mission commander Dr Peggy Whitson handed out astronaut pins to him, Slawosz Uznanski-Wisniewski and Tibor Kapu, who marked their first voyage to space.

“I am astronaut 634. It is a privilege to be here,” Group Captain Shukla said in brief remarks at the formal welcome ceremony on the space station. “With your love and blessings, I have reached the International Space Station. It looks easy to stand here, but I’m a bit lightheaded, a minor issue,” he said. “We will get used to it. This is the first step of this journey.”

Fatima Sana Shaikh, who will be next seen in Metro… In Dino, opened up about sexual misconduct on film set, casting couch and power dynamics in an interview with Humans Of Bombay. The Dangal actress said there’s a conspicuous change after the Me Too movement (2018) but the industry has to go a long way.

    What’s Happening

    • “You are working with someone, you become intimate (for the project). But then you don’t understand, the lines are blurred. Then, there is the dynamic of the power,” Fatima said as she weighed in on how sexual misconduct may often go unnoticed.

    • Reflecting upon her own personal experiences, Fatima said she’s been into “uncomfortable” positions but she never faced outright sexual misconduct on film set.

    • Praising the OTT giants which have ensured women’s safety on the sets of the film, Fatima said, “Somebody will come from this agency… You will have a meeting with the cast, crew, and all the HODs. You will be told what your rights are, what is appropriate, what is not,” Fatima explained, referring to the PoSH (Prevention of Sexual Harassment) sessions that are now mandatory during shoots.

    In A Nutshell

Fatima Sana Shaikh revealed she never faced direct sexual misconduct on sets. However, she’s often been put into “uncomfortable” situations.

  • In Air India Crash Probe Breakthrough, Data Downloaded From ‘Black Boxes’

This means we are now a (giant) step closer to understanding why AI 171, Air India’s Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, crashed 36 seconds after take-off, killing 241 people on the plane and 34 on the ground.

Information from the black boxes recovered from the June 12 Air India plane crash has been successfully downloaded and is being analysed, the government said Thursday afternoon.

The black boxes – a flight data recorder, or FDR, and a cockpit voice recorder, or CVR – were damaged in the crash and there were questions over the recovery of usable data. Last week sources told NDTV the government may send the FDR and CVR to the United States for forensic extraction of data.

However, in a big breakthrough, the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau has succeeded in safely extracting the Crash Protection Module, or CPM, and the memory module, and downloaded the data.

The government said both boxes – one found on the rooftop of the hostel into which the plane crashed and the other from the debris – were securely transported to the AAIB lab in Delhi on Tuesday.
